Home phone service for $10 a month

Keep a home phone without the old line rental. Our home phone service runs over the internet you already have, so you keep your number and your handset, and pay a fraction of what a traditional landline costs.

Plans start at $4.03 a month including GST for a naked line, which keeps a number active with no calling included. If you actually use the phone, the plans below include calling and are still cheaper than a copper landline.

Every price on this page includes GST, so what you see is what you pay.

Losing your copper landline?

Chorus is progressively switching off its copper network, and for a lot of households that means the landline you have had for years is going away. You do not have to lose the number with it.

Our home phone runs over your existing internet connection. Your number comes across, your handset keeps working, and the monthly cost is a fraction of old line rental.

Keep your number

Bring your existing landline number from Spark, One NZ or 2degrees for a one-off $23. Nobody needs to learn a new number for you.

Keep your phone

Your current cordless or corded handset works with a small adapter. Nothing changes about how you make a call.

No contract

Month to month, and free setup. If it does not suit, you leave.

Just want to keep the number?

A naked line is $4.03 a month, including GST. It keeps your number alive and nothing else — no calling included, no features. It suits people who want to hold on to a number they have had for thirty years without paying for a service they barely use.

If you do make calls, one of the plans above will work out cheaper than paying per call on a naked line. Ring us and we will tell you which.

111 calls and power cuts

Please read this before you switch. A phone that runs over the internet will not work in a power cut, because your router needs power. An old copper landline often kept working when the power went out. This is the single most important difference.

If anyone in your household relies on a phone to call 111 — someone elderly, someone with a medical condition, or anyone who could not get to a mobile — tell us before you sign up. We will talk through the options, which usually means keeping a charged mobile handy or running the router from a small battery backup.

This is covered by the 111 Contact Code. We would rather raise it now than have you discover it during a storm.

What else is plugged into your phone line?

This is the question most people forget. Monitored medical alarms, house alarms and some older equipment were built for copper lines and do not always work reliably over the internet.

Tell us what you have before we switch anything. Some devices are fine, some need a different arrangement, and it is far better to sort that out beforehand than to find out when you need it.

Recently swapped to Starlink and still needed the home phone. Kiwivoip seemed like the ideal solution. Arranged to “port” my number and advised me when it was live. Communication was really good.

What the plans actually differ on

All three include a local number, voicemail, caller ID and call waiting. The difference is how much calling is included.

Common questions

Can I keep my existing home number?

Yes. We bring landline numbers across from Spark, One NZ and 2degrees for a one-off $23 including GST. Your old service keeps working until the switch happens.

Do I need a new phone?

No. Your existing cordless or corded handset works with a small adapter that sits between your router and the phone. Nothing changes about how you dial.

What happens in a power cut?

The phone will not work, because your router needs power. Keep a charged mobile for emergencies, or ask us about running the router from a small battery backup.

Will my medical or house alarm still work?

Not always. Alarms designed for copper lines do not reliably work over the internet. Tell us what you have before we switch anything and we will work out what is needed.

What internet do I need?

Almost any connection will do. A phone call uses very little data. It works over fibre, VDSL, fixed wireless and Starlink.

Do the prices include GST?

Yes. Every price on this page includes GST, so what you see is what you pay.

Am I locked in?

No. Month to month, with free setup.

Give us a ring and we will sort it

Tell us your current number and what you have plugged into the line. We will tell you what it costs and what to watch out for. A person answers in about 13 seconds.
