The 3CX apps turn a mobile, laptop or browser into your office phone. Included, not extra.
Home / 3CX apps and softphones
Most of our own team answer the phone on an app, not a desk phone. The 13 seconds it takes us to pick up is measured across a team using mostly softphones.
The apps come with 3CX. There is no per-user fee and nothing extra to buy. For a lot of businesses that means the phone system costs less than they expected, because the hardware bill never arrives.
Your work extension, running on a device you already own. Your mobile, your laptop, or just a browser tab. It rings when your extension rings, it shows the business number when you call out, and it does everything a desk phone does.
The important part is the caller ID. When you ring a customer from your mobile it shows your business number, not your personal one, so nobody ends up with your private mobile in their contacts.
iOS and Android. Your extension in your pocket, on wifi or mobile data. Take work calls anywhere without giving out your personal number.
Windows and Mac. Headset in, dial from a screen, see who is on a call before you transfer to them.
Nothing to install. Log in and make calls from a web page, which suits shared machines and people who move desks.
The same extension, the same queues, the same reporting. Nobody has to divert anything or hand out a mobile number.
Start a call at your desk, keep talking as you walk to the car. The call moves with you.
Ring someone’s extension and it finds them, whether they are at a desk, in a van or at home.
A new starter gets an extension and downloads an app. No hardware to order, no waiting for a courier.
Internal messaging and video meetings are part of the same system, so it is not another subscription.
Included with 3CX. Adding people does not change your licence, as our pricing page explains.
We are not going to pretend apps suit everyone. We use both ourselves, and there are jobs where a physical phone wins.
Someone handling calls all day wants real buttons, a busy lamp field and a handset they can cradle. See our handsets.
A workshop, a warehouse counter or a staffroom where the phone belongs to the room rather than a person.
Some staff will never take to an app, and that is a perfectly good reason to put a handset on their desk.
Do not rely on the app for 111. Emergency calls should be made from a mobile’s normal dialler or a landline, because those pass your location to the emergency operator. Make sure staff know that.
Calls use very little data — roughly 100 kbps each way — so a call uses less than streaming music. What matters is a stable connection rather than a fast one.
No. The apps are part of 3CX and extensions are included up to your system size, so adding staff does not add licence cost.
No. Calls made from the app show your business number. That is one of the main reasons people use it.
Less than people expect. The app uses push notifications rather than running constantly, so it wakes up when a call arrives.
The app needs a data connection. Where coverage is patchy we can set calls to fall back to your mobile number instead, so you still get them.
Yes, and most people do. You can also log out at the end of the day so it does not ring after hours.
Yes, and most businesses do. We run a mix ourselves. One person can even have both, with calls ringing on each.
We will set up a demo so your team can use the apps for real. If they get on with it, you may not need to buy hardware at all.
