Home / Our 3CX monitoring centre

Most phone problems are found by the customer. Someone tries to make a call, it fails, and the first anybody knows is an angry phone call to whoever sold them the system.

We built a monitoring centre so that does not happen. Every 3CX system we host is checked every 30 seconds, around the clock. When something goes critical it raises a ticket in our helpdesk and texts our team, whatever the hour.

A real example

A customer had call recording switched on and gradually filled their hard drive. Nobody noticed, because nothing looks wrong until the disk is full — and then the phone system stops. Not degrades. Stops.

Our monitoring picked up the disk filling long before it got there. We cleared it down and adjusted their retention. The customer never knew there had been a problem, which is exactly the point.

What it actually watches

This is not a ping check. It is a purpose-built system we wrote ourselves for New Zealand customers, and it looks at the things that actually take phone systems down.

Every system, every 30 seconds

Reachability, CPU, disk space, extension registrations and how old the last backup is. The four things that predict trouble.

111 emergency calling

If someone dials 111, does it actually go out, and does anyone get told? Checked on every system, not assumed.

Backups that really landed

We check what has arrived in our own store, not what the PBX claims it sent. A backup nobody has verified is not a backup.

Licences before they lapse

Warnings well ahead of expiry, so nobody arrives on Monday to a phone system that stopped over the weekend.

Toll fraud watch

Call volumes and patterns per system, so an unusual spike gets looked at rather than discovered on the bill.

The kit at your site

SBCs and router phones sitting in your building, and whether they are still talking home.

What changed, and when

“It worked yesterday” is answerable. Every change on every system is logged with a time against it.

Trunk registration

Your lines, continuously. A trunk that drops at 2am is picked up at 2am, not when someone tries to ring out.

Security

Who is trying it on, and what we have already shut out.

What happens when something breaks

1. It goes critical on the board

A wallboard runs on screen in our office all day, worst problems first.

2. A ticket opens automatically

Straight into our helpdesk system, with the detail attached. Nobody has to notice and remember.

3. Our team gets a text

Any hour. The NOC is watched around the clock, not just during office hours.

Why this is unusual

We built it, so it fits

It is not an off-the-shelf network tool bent into shape. It was written for 3CX and for the way New Zealand systems are actually deployed.

We host the systems too

Monitoring is only useful if the same people can fix what it finds. We host it, we watch it, we repair it.

The trunks are ours

We see the phone system and the lines behind it. Most providers can only see one side.

A person answers in 13 seconds

If you do ring, you get someone who can already see your system rather than someone asking you to describe it.

Common questions

Does this cost extra?

No. It comes with every 3CX system we host. It is how we look after customers, not an add-on we sell.

Will you contact me, or wait for me to notice?

We contact you. If something needs your input or a visit we get in touch. A lot of the time we have already fixed it before you would have noticed.

Can I see my own system?

Ring us and we can tell you exactly what your system is doing, right now, while you are on the phone. The monitoring centre itself is an internal tool.

What if I self-host my 3CX?

Talk to us. Monitoring works best on systems we host, but there are options depending on how yours is set up.

Is my data safe?

The monitoring watches system health rather than the content of your calls. Systems we host are hosted in New Zealand.

Who is watching your phone system right now?

If the answer is nobody, that is worth a conversation. Ask us what we would see on your system.
