Explore the seamless connection between Kiwi VoIP and Starlink, the advanced satellite internet service from Elon Musk’s SpaceX. For Kiwi VoIP clients opting for Starlink, compatibility with their business phone services is guaranteed, offering a robust communication backbone for businesses.
Distinct from conventional satellite internet options, which utilize geostationary satellites positioned about 35,000 km above Earth, Starlink employs a pioneering strategy by placing its satellites in low-Earth orbit, about 550 km up. This closer proximity enables significantly enhanced speed and reliability.
In New Zealand the Commerce Commission’s Measuring Broadband New Zealand report (Report 28, July 2026) measured Starlink’s Residential 100 plan at around 130 Mbps download and Residential Max at around 245 Mbps. Rural ADSL averages about 9 Mbps.
Kiwi VoIP’s business phone solutions require just 0.417 Mbps of bandwidth for optimal performance, according to our testing. Therefore, businesses selecting Starlink as their ISP can anticipate seamless operation with Kiwi VoIP, eliminating common connectivity concerns.
The advent of Starlink introduces a pivotal development in expanding the reach and efficiency of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) services. This is particularly beneficial for businesses in remote locations, offering them access to affordable and feature-rich VoIP solutions previously beyond their reach.

Every pin is a Kiwi VoIP customer running their phone line over Starlink. The blue ones are businesses — farms, contractors, camping grounds, packhouses, vineyards and rural offices.
If you are wondering whether it will work at your site, the answer is probably already on the map.
Chorus is progressively switching off its copper network. For a rural business that often means the number on your invoices, your signage and your Google listing is attached to a line that is going away.
Starlink fixes the internet. It does not give you a phone line — there is no phone socket on a Starlink router. This is what fills that gap, and your existing business number comes with you.
Port your existing business landline from Spark, One NZ or 2degrees for a one-off $20. Nothing on your van, your invoices or your website needs reprinting.
Plans run from 5 concurrent lines up to 35, so staff are not fighting over a single line during the busy part of the day.
Our Infinity plan includes numbers that can be local or tollfree, so a rural business can look national.
A rural business is rarely all in one building. The phone system should not assume otherwise.
Every plan includes 3CX app users, so staff take business calls on their own phone with the business number showing — out in the paddock, at the shed, or on the road.
Yealink IP phones plug straight into the Starlink router with a network cable. Office, smoko room, workshop — wherever a phone needs to ring.
Our support team has a step-by-step guide on connecting phones to the Starlink modem.
Worth planning for. A phone line over any internet connection will not work in a power cut, because the Starlink dish and the router both need power. If your site has staff on it, that matters more than it does in a house.
Most rural businesses we set up keep a charged mobile as backup, or put the dish and router on a small UPS so the phones ride out a short outage. Tell us how your site runs and we will work out what is sensible.
This is covered by the 111 Contact Code. We would rather raise it now than have you find out during an outage.
Yes. We port business landline numbers from Spark, One NZ or 2degrees for a one-off $20, and your existing service keeps working until the switch happens.
Business Essentials gives you 5 concurrent lines, Elite and Infinity give you 35. Concurrent lines are how many conversations can happen at the same moment, which is usually a smaller number than your headcount.
Yes. Every plan includes 3CX app users. Staff make and take calls on their own handset and the business number is what the customer sees, so nobody hands out a personal mobile.
Yes. Starlink puts most connections behind carrier-grade NAT, which upsets some VoIP setups. Ours is configured to work with it, and if your router needs a specific setting our team will sort it with you.
The phones stop, because the dish and router need power. Keep a charged mobile, or ask us about running the equipment from a UPS so a short outage does not take your phones down.
Yes. The same service runs over fibre, VDSL and fixed wireless, so if your site later gets fibre the phone system does not change.
Yes. The Infinity plan includes numbers that can be local or tollfree, and we can add tollfree numbers to any plan.
No. Every plan is month to month.
How many staff, how many need to be on the phone at once, and what your current setup cannot do. We will tell you which plan fits. We answer the phone in about 13 seconds on average and we are rated 4.9 from 241 Google reviews.
