Here’s some of the reasons we love about using VoIP !!
Cheap phone calls
The number one reason that people use voice over IP is to save on call costs. Keep your existing phone line, and try Internet telephony! With any given VoIP service provider, you are bound to find rates to just about anywhere in the world at a fraction of what you would pay your local telephone company. And remember, calling other VoIP users is free!
Second phone line
Large families (or even small families with a teenage child), or people who run home businesses, often require a second phone line. Using your existing broadband Internet connection, you can use VoIP for a second line. Typically you would pay upwards of 19.95 per month just to get a second landline however with voice over IP, there are a couple of options available to you at a fraction of the cost, whether you are looking for a backup line with no monthly fees or a new primary line with 10c untimed calls around the country and monthly rental for less than 10 dollars a month. (keep your landline as your secondary or backup service!)
Free calls to loved ones
If you spend a lot of time on the phone (or would like to,) to a select number of people, you can use VoIP to eliminate call costs between you and them! Most VoIP service providers allow you to make unlimited free calls between yourself and other Internet telephony users. All you have to do, is purchase the hardware outright, and you are ready to go! It does not matter whether the person you are speaking to is on the other side of the country, or the other side of the world – if both of you have VoIP, you can call each other for free! The only requirement is that both parties have good quality Internet connections.
This arrangement is not only useful for family and friends, but is particularly useful for businesses with branch offices. Rather than having the expense of an STD call every time an employee in one office calls someone in another office, you can link all the PABXs between the offices using VoIP, giving yourself tie-lines over the Internet, such that employees can call other offices on their PABX extension, with the only cost incured being the Internet connection used for the voice traffic.
Remote presence – allow people to call YOU cheaply
If you receive a lot of calls from a specific location, wouldn’t it be nice if those people could call you for the cost of a local call? Now they can! With voice over IP, you can sign up for a phone number in a different location to where you are, and when someone calls that number, your VoIP phone will ring. For example, if you live on the central NSW coast, but have a lot of friends/family/customers in Sydney, you can get a Sydney phone number which would allow those people to call you for the cost of a local call! This arrangement can be very useful for a company that requires a presence in another city – perhaps a complete hosted PABX is not required, but some of the features of having remote phone numbers are. All you have to do is sign up for direct inward dialling, also known as a virtual number.
Perhaps not only do you receive calls from another location, but make a lot of calls there. Why pay long distance rates to call Perth, or Adelaide, or any other major city? With our packaged VoIP solutions you can get untimed calls costing only 10c to all major Australian cities with our VoIP service providers.
Keep your phone number while travelling
Mobile phones are great – it does not matter where you are in Australia (or indeed the world), people can reach you using the same number. The problem is that it is expensive for people to call you, and calling out from a mobile is not cheap either. If you travel and have access to broadband along the way, then perhaps voice over IP with a single geographic phone number is for you. Sign up with a VoIP service provider and get a telephone number in your home city, and then take the included phone with you whenever you travel. People will always be able to reach you on the same phone number no matter where you are in the world, for the same price. And you will always be able to call people in your home city for 10c (or less) – no matter where you are in the world – your calls will be made ‘as if’ you are still at home!
