3CX V15 – Update 5 3CX Linux Final, More Admin Time Savings

Update 5 brings the final release of 3CX for Linux which now has complete feature parity with the Windows version. We’ve also added further automation of the day to day management of 3CX as well as made it easier to host 3CX on leading cloud providers.

Auto Updates / Backups / Restores

A host of management tasks can now be done completely automatically or with just a few clicks:

Backups can now be automatically taken and copied to a Google Drive account.
Automatically restores backups to another instance if you have failover configured (Requires PRO or ENT).
Failover is much easier to configure.
Operating System Security updates are installed automatically (in case of Debian for 3CX).
Installs 3CX field tested product updates automatically.
New, tested phone firmwares are automatically downloaded for easy one click network wide installation (automatic alerts if phones have outdated firmware).
A Labs feature allows you to test upcoming updates that have been released in beta.
Digital receptionists can be configured as a Wake-Up Call Service extension.
Other improvements:

Easy configuration of a Gmail or Office 365 account for notification emails sent by the PBX.
DID source identification has been improved reducing DID configuration.
Windows and Mac clients are now bundled with the main install.
Chat messages are now automatically pushed to iOS and Android clients.
Known issues:

Users upgrading from V14 with custom welcome email templates will loose these changes on restore.
Changes were made to the inbuilt Snom and Yealink templates. Users with custom templates need to update their templates
When using Google drive as a backup location you might encounter this exception “Google.GoogleApiException: Google.Apis.Requests.RequestError Insufficient permissions for the specified parent. [403]”. Share the folder and set access to “is owner” or “can organize, add and edit”
Linux version does not include ODBC and LDAP. We have no plans to add these for the time being.
Reports on Linux cannot be saved in PDF format. We will be adding this feature in the next update. In the meantime use HTML format.

Under Telephony make sure the Registrar, Proxy and domain are all set as sip.kiwivoip.co.nz, tick “Use Outbound” and put in sip.kiwivoip.co.nz, Click Save, Next click below on Voip Number and enter your details.  For example enter sip number and user name as 093778647 (your number) and then for the password use your account password.  Save this.  Next associate the number with the line.

Now the important thing most people forget is to tell the modem to use VoIP.  This is under Internet and you need to edit the connect type and make sure voice is ticked

Q. What is a kiwivoip 028 number?
A. A kiwivoip 028 number functions like a mobile phone number. It costs the same rate to call it no matter where you are in New Zealand. However, calling an 028 number from another kiwivoip phone will be free of charge – since all kiwivoip plans allow ‘Unlimited kiwivoip calling’. The cost of calling an 028 number from a non-kiwivoip phone will depend on your telephone operator – but the rate should be equivalent to another NZ mobile (or count towards your minute bundle if calling in from a mobile phone)
Q. Can I bring my current phone number to kiwivoip?
A. Yes. Please see our Porting Guide for more information
Q. What is a kiwivoip local number?
A. A kiwivoip local number is tied to a local region within New Zealand. Callers within that local region can call your number for free.
Q. Do I get a voicemail box with every kiwivoip phone line?
A. Yes – every kiwivoip phone line has its own voicemail box
Q. Does every kiwivoip line have its own set of features?
A. Yes – each kiwivoip phone and fax line has a separately configurable set of phone or fax features.
Q. How many phone numbers can I have with kiwivoip?
A. This is dependent on the plan you choose.
Q. Can I make calls to 0900 numbers?
A. No, calls to 0900 numbers are not currently available
Q. Can I make 111 calls on kiwivoip?
A. kiwivoip do not support emergency calling. However if you do make a 111 call it will connect if possible. The operator will not know your physical location so you will need to provide this information to them.

Q. How many simultaneous calls can I make through kiwivoip?
A. This depends on which plan you are signed up on. The personal plans page lists the amount of concurrent calls that are available on the personal plans. If more than one person will be making calls at the same time on your kiwivoip account then you should consider the Business Plans the number of concurrent calls available on these plans can be seen on the business plans page. If you add additional local (non-028) numbers onto your account then you will get 1 additional concurrent call for each additional number that you add to your account. If you require more simultaneous calls on your account then contact support@kiwivoip.co.nz and you can purchase additional simultaneous call blocks of 5 to increase the number of calls that can be made on your account.
Q. How much data will my calls use?
A. This will depend on the codec you use for your calls. We’ve put together some examples using the most commonly used kiwivoip codecs to give you an idea. One thing you need to keep in mind is that calls use data is both directions so you will need to consider both download and upload usage.
G.729
With a G.729 call you should allow at least 240 KB (kilobytes) in each direction per minute of call, or 28.8 MB (Megabytes) per hour in total. This translates to around 170 hours of calls on a 5 GB (Gigabyte) data plan.
G.711
With a G.711 call you should allow around 660 KB (kilobytes) in each direction per minute of call, or 79.2 MB (Megabytes) per hour in total. This translates to 63 hours of calls on a 5 GB (Gigabyte) data plan.
Please note that figures are estimates of the data requirements used for a call using a specified code. Actual requirements can change based on phone usage patterns and your connection type to the internet. DSL plans for example may include additional overheads and usage applied by your service provider. These calculations should only be used as a guide and we take no responsibility for the amount of actual bandwidth used.
Q. Can I run my home alarm or sky digital across kiwivoip?
A. kiwivoip do not currently provide support for home alarms or services such as sky digital and St John Alarms
Q. Will my kiwivoip service work if there is a power cut?
A. Your kiwivoip service requires power to work – your broadband modem and PC will not function without it. However you can use the kiwivoip Remote Access services if you have no power at your current location.

Q. Can I use my existing phone with kiwivoip?
A. You can use your existing analogue phone if you install an ATA to connect it to your broadband service. You can also use it with any of the Remote Access services.
Q. How do I get access to kiwivoip’s GPL licensed source code?
A. kiwivoipphone is distributed under the GPL (GNU Public License) as the code is derived directly from the OpenWengo Project. If you wish to receive a copy of kiwivoip’s modified OpenWengo source code please contact support@kiwivoip.co.nz and we will provide a link to the source.
